| More Details: | College is celebrating its Post Centenary Silver Jubilee this year (2009 Fergusson College has 124 years of history as the flagship of higher education in Pune. Alma Mater to leaders across the entire spectrum of societal positions: Prime-Ministers, Industrialists, Doctors, Engineers, Academicians, Scientists, Litterateurs, Artistes, and Sportspersons. The College offers a three tier package, beginning with the Junior college that caters to students passing out from school. Comprehensive courses are offered in both Arts and Science streams, preparing students to launch out into professional courses or continue on towards graduate studies in the Senior College. At the Senior college, students can work towards a Bachelorâs of Arts degree in a range of subjects spanning Languages, Social Sciences, Humanities or a Bachelor of Science degree in any one of the traditional Natural Sciences or in cutting edge subjects like Computer Science, Biotechnology, Electronic Science, Microbiology. Post-Graduate degree courses are also offered both in the Science and Arts streams. Some Arts and Science subjects offer facilities for Doctoral Research as well. A sprawling 65 acre campus, in the heart of the city, provides space for residential facilities, sports, games and cultural facilities which contribute to the well rounded development of a more than 5500 strong student population. The College has earned an enviable reputation in teaching and research in the Sciences as well as in the Humanities. Students have a wide range of subjects to choose from in the Junior College as well as in Senior College wings. College of Engineering, Pune (COEP) is one of the most prestigious engineering colleges in India. Established in 1854, it is the third oldest engineering college in Asia, after the College of Engineering, Guindy (1794) and IIT Roorkee (1847). It is located in Pune (formerly Poona), Maharashtra. The students and alumni of COEP are colloquially referred to as COEPians. In 2004, the institute was granted complete autonomy by the state government, and declared a center for excellence in technical education. The institute now is an autonomous engineering school with permanent affiliation to the University of Pune. The college’s study model referred to in the early 50s as the ‘Poona Model’ is highly respected by the industry and public works. The institute contends that its autonomy now grants it greater flexibility in dynamically changing its syllabus to suit the changing needs of the industry. SPORTS and GYMNASIUM A well developed cricket ground is located in the centre of the campus. Also sports section include 1 volley ball n 2 tennis courts, 1 basketball court, n 4 table tennis courts. A up-to-date gym is their to enhance the physical strength of the students. also steam bath is available at the gym. Many of the college players are being selected at various competitions. BOAT CLUB The College is situated on the Mumbai-Pune road and is spread over an area of about 36 acres land. The college enjoys a picturesque frontage on the river Mula near its confluence with the river Mutha, and this has enabled it to run a Boat Club, which is considered to be among the best in India. The Boat Club premises also house an indoor badminton and table tennis hall and a Gymnasium. CULTURAL AND SPORTS FESTIVALS Around the start of the year a college gathering is held altogether wherein all students come together and get a chance to show their talents not only in cultural programs but in sports too. Programs such as personality contest, fashion show, dance show, singing shows, plays, DJ Party , etc. are held during January to March period. HOSTEL The hostels, accommodating about 1400 students are situated on a triangular piece of land at a distance of 200 meters from the college. The hostel premises also house dining halls common TV room and indoor sports facilities. A large playground, opposite the hostel caters to the needs of sporting enthusiasts of the college and also for hosting university level meets. The playground houses floodlit tennis courts, basketball and volleyball courts in addition to facilities for athletics, cricket & football.
