NEIGRIHMS is an Autonomous Institute established by Government of India in 1987 under the Meghalaya Registration of Societies Act 1983. The then Prime Minister Late Rajiv Gandhi dedicated the Institute to the memory of Late Indira Gandhi, former Prime Minister for her commitment to the welfare and affection for the people of North Eastern Region. It has now been designed as a Postgraduate Medical Institute in the lineage of AIIMS, New Delhi and PGIMER, Chandigarh. (Candidates may please refer to the list of medical colleges recognized by the Medical Council of India in the MCI Website.) 4.     The candidates who have obtained their MBBS degree from a foreign country will have to produce the proof of their having passed the qualifying examination held by the Medical Council of India and also of their registration with the Medical Council of India. 5.     However, a candidate who, after passing the final qualifying examination (MBBS or the foreign medical degree recognized by National Board of Examination), is undergoing 12-month compulsory rotating internship/practical training and is likely to complete the same by 30/04/2010 can take up this examination, but he/she shall not be eligible for admission unless he/she has completed the compulsory rotating internship and obtained full registration on or before 30/04/2010 and the candidate produces a certificate from the Head of the institution that he/she will be completing internship by 30/04/2010.  6.     The candidates who have already done/are pursuing MD/MS in any subject at the time of counseling shall not be considered for admission to MD/MS courses at NEIGRIHMS.
